“We are very excited to be working with Cardiff’s renowned photography organisation, Ffotogallery, at our Cardiff Arts Academy on trade street. Our BA photographic practice course, in partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University provides students with the professional and academic development needed, whilst always promoting individual creativity. We are now proud to help develop Cardiff’s photographic scene even further with the help of Ffotogallery, by welcoming them into our academy to share our excellent facilities.”
Matthew Rees, Curriculum Manager, Creative Arts, Bridgend College
Our students will benefit from the fantastic facilities that the Arts Academy has to offer. Courses are led by practising photographers and creative professionals, ensuring a well-rounded and exciting learning experience.
We are very pleased to announce that Ffotogallery’s course programme will be delivered from the Arts Academy in Trade Street Cardiff, in an exciting new partnership with Bridgend College. The Arts Academy is a superb city centre facility offering state of the art production facilities including darkroom, photographic studio and lighting, digital printing and suites of Mac computers, running Adobe Creative Suite. Ffotogallery will re-launch our new-look course and workshop programme in July this year, developed with Bridgend College, and Cardiff Metropolitan University to provide students with an exciting and creative entry level programme of evening classes. In the meantime, current courses will be enrolling from 26th March for the summer term starting in May, with opportunities to experience Ffotogallery’s renowned international exhibition programme, and take advantage of Arts Academy facilities and opportunities for further studies.

Classes are artist-led and take place in small groups in an enjoyable informal atmosphere. Students are encouraged to develop their ideas through a series of practical projects and illustrated talks exploring the impact of photography and digital media in a cultural and historical context. All of our courses run over ten weeks and they take place three times a year starting in September, January and April. Classes take place over ten regular weekly evening sessions or over five fortnightly weekend or weekday daytime sessions. Students who wish to submit their work for assessment then have a few weeks after the course has finished to complete project work for submissions.
Enrolment normally opens four to six weeks prior to courses starting. Ffotogallery courses are run in association with Cardiff Open Art School, Cardiff Metropolitan University. Students who submit their work at the end of each course and achieve a pass will receive 20 HE credits. Students who have successfully completed three courses and obtained 60 HE credits can now apply for a Continuing Education Award: Photography and Digital Media (60 HE credits) issued by Cardiff Metropolitan University. Students who have successfully completed six courses and obtained 120 HE credits can now apply for a Continuing Education Award: Photography and Digital Media (120 HE credits) issued by Cardiff Metropolitan University.
We have gift vouchers available in multiples of £20 or £50 which can be accepted as part or full payment towards a course. We will conveniently post these out to you to give as a unique present for friends or family (please note that they will still need to get in touch with us to enrol).
