Ffotogallery is the national development agency for photography in Wales and the premier arts organisation dedicated to the promotion and presentation of photographic art in the country. The gallery looks at photographic practice in the broadest sense, and initiates exhibitions that focus on documentary as well as more expansive uses of photography that may involve the use of projection, digital and other lens-based forms.

Through its exhibition & publishing programme and educational outreach work, Ffotogallery consciously attempts to respond to issues that are pertinent to the culture of Wales. In parallel with this, Ffotogallery endeavours to bring photographic work to Wales that is at the forefront of contemporary critical debate, from Britain and around the world.

Ffotogallery currently operates across a number of sites: its administration and educational facilities [including: b/w & colour darkrooms; teaching/studio areas; framing & print mounting services and members' library & archive] are based in Chapter Arts Centre in the west of the city of Cardiff. The exhibition programme, underpinned by a full compliment of interpretative activities [including: teachers' inset days; family workshops; seminars and school & community group projects], is run from the exquisite Grade I listed Turner House Gallery in Penarth, which is owned by the National Museum of Wales.

Ffotogallery remains committed to establishing a National Centre for Photography in Wales, and is supported by the Arts Council of Wales in realising this ambition. In pursuit of this aim, Ffotogallery also works closely with the University of Wales Newport who provide partnership funding for the unique full time post of Senior Research Fellow in Photographic Curation; a post that seeks to harness the research ethic of the university environment with the practical responsibilities of delivering artistic excellence in the public domain.
