Timed to coincide with the 30^th anniversary of the Falklands/Malvinas war, Voices of the South Atlantic is a long term project by Argentinian photographer Adriana Groisman, examining issues of war and its consequences.

Voices of the South Atlantic is a partnership project between Ffotogallery, Autograph ABP and Photofusion.

Tea & Cake Tuesdays

On the first Tuesday of each exhibition, gallery staff are on hand throughout the day to guide you through the artists work. Drop in at any point on 22nd May and there will be tea and cake provided as you learn more about Voices of the South Atlantic at your own pace.

Ffotogallery is embarking on an ambitious development programme over the next three years which includes coordination and delivery of ‘diffusion – the first Cardiff International Festival of Photography – and development of our accredited course programme and production facilities. To this end, we are recruiting for two new posts as well as seeking new Board members.

This half-term workshop, inspired by Voices of the South Atlantic, offers the opportunity to work with the Education Team and local sound artist Chris Young to create evocative seascapes, using abstract images and found sounds from Penarth Beach.

This current project is co-ordinated by Ffotogallery in partnership with Crest Nicholson and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Pupils from six schools in Penarth have been invited to tell the story of the Penarth Heights site, from the idealism of the 1970s social housing project the ‘Billy Banks’ to the decline and regeneration of the area.

This exciting project links art, history, creative writing and digital story-telling together. Click here to visit the blog, where pupils, school staff and artists to showcase and share research, ideas, and works in progress.

May’s FORUM focuses on ‘Space and Change’, in response to g39’s recent move from their previous premises in Cardiff to their new gallery space on Oxford Street, Roath.

FORUM is an informal, monthly event for early career artists, students and graduates, organised by WARP & Ffotogallery. It is a platform for practitioners from various disciplines to exchange ideas, experience and opinions on visual culture.

FORUM is diverse in its nature and has no fixed form. Each FORUM event has its own theme which provides a catalyst for discussion on a range of issues in the context of contemporary arts practice. See the FORUM BLOG for more info, posts about opportunities and an archive of FORUM’s activity.

Also every month FORUM members will have an opportunity to show or discuss new or unfinished works in an informal setting, for feedback and discussion. Bring along work on the night, or contact emma@ffotogallery.org for more information.

Timed to coincide with the 30^th anniversary of the Falklands/Malvinas war, Voices of the South Atlantic examines issues of war and its consequences. Rooted in the 1982 Falklands/Malvinas conflict, it includes the voices of people who fought on both sides, as well as civilians who were directly affected. Colour photographs of landscapes of the islands and black and white seascapes of the South Atlantic, act as visual metaphors that allude to feelings of menace, courage and fear, at the same time showing physical traces of war. Through juxtaposing photographs of scarred landscapes with testimonies from British and Argentine veterans and Falkland Islanders, a dialogue is established between the time needed for the terrain to heal and the period the men themselves need to recover.

Voices of the South Atlantic is a partnership project between Ffotogallery, Autograph ABP and Photofusion, with a series of linked exhibitions and events hosted in London, Wales and Plymouth.
