Hidden Presence Artist Commission
Applications are now invited for the Hidden Presence Artist Commission. The successful artist will work over an agreed period of time spending a minimum of 6 days working in Wales over a period of 6 weeks. This residency element is to be completed by end of March 2015. The commission is offered by Ffotogallery in partnership with Chepstow Museum and is open to EU-based artists working in lens-based media. The resulting work may take the form of a gallery based exhibition, or public realm piece/site specific installation with a resulting gallery presentation. It is an opportunity for the artist to develop a new body of work for the Hidden Presence Project, responding creatively to the story of Nathaniel Wells and Piercefield House. The commission will run in parallel with the Hidden Presence artist led community project, exchanging ideas within a creative atmosphere. The brief for the commission is very open, and we are looking for interesting
and creatively ambitious proposals responding to the specific context.

“Volunteering for Ffotogallery has been amazing. It gave me hands-on experience working in an art gallery, an opportunity to meet some great people and interact with artists, and it’s also been a lot of fun!” Zosia Krasnowolska, July 2013
“Being a volunteer at Ffotogallery has given me a huge amount of confidence and fantastic opportunities to work first hand with established artists, letting me gain invaluable experience in editing and hanging a successful show. I’ve also been able to contribute to the media and written content of the website which is great for my professional work going forward.” Luke Boland, July 2013
We offer voluntary gallery placements enabling people to gain valuable experience in working both front of house, enhancing the visitor experience; and ‘behind the scenes’, assisting with delivery of the programme. Volunteers also have the opportunity to bring new ideas to the programme and get involved in education activities, exhibitions, marketing and events.
All Ffotogallery volunteers receive free darkroom membership including benefits such as a 25% discount on Ffotogallery publications, use of our specialist photographic library and free access to our darkroom facilities in Chapter Arts Centre.
