Artsmark Accreditation

Ffotogallery has been offered the exciting opportunity of working with the Cardiff Arts Support Team (CAST) and four of the leading Arts Organisations in Cardiff, to support the development of the ArtsMark award scheme for Wales.

ArtsMark aims to be a national award scheme that recognises schools with a high level of provision in the arts. The award scheme currently in a pilot phase in Cardiff, aims to be open to all schools in Wales - primary, secondary, special schools and pupil referral units. ArtsMark will provide a benchmark for arts provision, encouraging schools to consider the arts opportunities they have to offer. By gaining an ArtsMark, a school will demonstrate its commitment to the wider development of young people and teachers, and to raising the profile of the arts within the school and within the local community. In July 2006 Ffotogallery commissioned artists Faye Chamberlain and Tom Hobson, to work with Christ the King Primary School and Oakfield Primary School, enabling both schools to achieve their Bronze ArtsMark awards. As a result of the workshops, Ffotogallery was also able to achieve recognition as an ArtsMark Accredited organisation, and is now identified as leaders in the provision of creative lens-based and digital media education. From our base in Chapter Arts Centre, our dedicated team will continue to work with schools across Cardiff, helping them to gain their Bronze, Silver and ACW endorsed Gold Awards.

If your school is interested in taking part in the ArtsMark Award Scheme, please contact Julie Ashfield at CAST on 029 2047 2334 (Ext. 245) or at JAshfield [at] cardiff.gov.uk
