2026 Volunteering:
Volunteer with Ffoto Cymru Festival 2026
Wales' biannual festival of photography is back! Led by Ffotogallery, we are looking for friendly, excited and committed volunteers to help welcome visitors and invigilate exhibitions across different venues in Cardiff and Swansea from the 2nd - 12th December- could this be you? This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn + apply new skills in the arts and make exciting connections from Wales and beyond.
No previous festival experience needed - we'll provide all the training you need and hands on support whilst you volunteer with us.

Ffoto Cymru 2026 will bring together exhibitions, events, talks, workshops and opportunities to connect with photography in new and unexpected ways.
This year's theme is 'There's More to Life': and we're inviting people to look beyond the everyday pressures of productivity, progress and constant acceleration, and to consider different ways of being, creating and connecting. Through photography, Ffoto Cymru 2026 explores the possibilities of alternative futures: ways of working and living that value care, curiosity, creativity, community and imagination.
As a volunteer you’ll be part of a team and play an important role invigilating exhibitions, welcoming audiences into galleries and sharing what you know about the artist and the wider programme. We'll support you every step of the way; from invigilation training and learning about the artists and their work, to being on the ground when the festival begins and creating a warm, safe, inclusive environment for all.
FAQS
Where will I be volunteering?
Ffoto Cymru 2026 takes place in several art galleries across Wales. When you sign up, you’ll be matched with a venue / gallery based on your location, access needs and other information you provide - we’ll always check you’re comfortable before sending you out. We’re reaching out to volunteers in Cardiff and Swansea - so you must be based in one of these cities, or able to get there by car or public transport.
What will I be doing as a gallery invigilator?
You’ll be working as part of a team to welcome visitors into the gallery space, creating a warm and safe space. You’ll manage the space; setting up and shutting down the exhibition, including turning on/off video work, replenishing exhibition guides and answering queries from the public about the artist and their work (all training will be provided). You’ll also be asked to keep a record of visitor numbers and any feedback.
Will I be paid?
No - this role is purely voluntary, but Ffotogallery can cover expenses: travel / parking: £10; lunch: £5
Do I need any special skills to volunteer?
No - our only requirement is that you're over 18. We'll provide you with all the necessary training you need to feel confident in your role, and we’ll provide a supportive and safe environment.
Do I have to commit to a specific day or amount of time?
There is no minimum commitment, however gallery shifts vary from 5-7 hours (with breaks) so you must be able to commit to at least one full shift.
