A fun, hands-on introduction to using digital video cameras and editing for beginners. Participants taking this course will get a better understanding of how to give a polish to their family films, or to take the first steps into a new career.

Over five sessions, a combination of practical seminars, creative exercises, film screenings and group discussion introduce students to the fundamentals of video production and editing using Apple Final Cut Pro X.

NB. You will need your own video camera to do the course (this can include tablets, phones and DSLRs with video function. In addition, it is recommended that students have access to an External Hard Drive for the storage of their project work.)

The aim of this short course is to:
Develop basic practical knowledge of production techniques as well as an understanding of the underlying principles of film language that form the critical, creative and technical framework within moving image creation and its evaluation. The course provides practical experience in project planning, camera handling, shooting, basic editing techniques required for production of a short video sequence.

The course is accredited by Cardiff Metropolitan University, to the value of 20 Higher Education credits at Level 4. Students who wish to obtain the accreditation must submit their work at the end of the course and achieve a Pass grade. Submitting work for accreditation is not compulsory.
