Pink Portraits 2026: Assistant Photographer
The Iris Prize and Ffotogallery, in partnership with BBC Cymru Wales, are delighted to announce a new opportunity for an early-career photographer based in Wales to work as an Assistant Photographer.
In Iris' 20th Anniversary year, we are partnering with BBC Cymru Wales to photograph LGBTQ+ individuals working there, in a celebration of their identities as both a member of the LGBTQ+ community and BBC staff. This follows the success of previous iterations of the project with Bad Wolf in 2025, and Transport for Wales in 2024.
The lead photographer for the project will be Harrison Williams, who has been working with Iris on a freelance basis for 6 years. This is an opportunity for those at the beginning of their photography journey to have an open dialogue with Harrison as he works and get involved in assisting.
Siân Addicott, Director of Ffotogallery said, “We’re proud to support this opportunity in partnership with the Iris Prize and BBC Cymru Wales. Creating space for early-career photographers in Wales to develop their practice within such a meaningful and celebratory project reflects our shared commitment to nurturing new talent and amplifying LGBTQ+ voices through photography.”
Iris Prize Festival Director Berwyn Rowlands said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for an individual to gain experience and learn from Harrison Williams, an accomplished creative who has been a key part of Team Iris for almost 10 years. The Pink Portraits have become an important part of the Iris Prize portfolio, and in this our 20th anniversary year together with BBC Cymru Wales, they are key part of the 2026 celebrations."
Garmon Rhys, Director BBC Cymru Wales said: “Through the Pink Portraits 2026, BBC Cymru Wales and the Iris Prize will celebrate the diversity of the BBC in Wales. We’re so pleased to be working with the Iris Prize in its twentieth year and look forward to seeing how the project develops over the next twelve months.”
