Polaroid lift workshop; held in Clwb Ffoto, Newport
Lucy Beckett
About the artist:
Lucy Beckett is a photographer living in Swansea currently working within a fine art photography approach. Her work often looks at themes of identity, self and feminism usually being navigated through the lens of a polaroid camera. This exploration reflects Becketts own thoughts and feelings around self-hood and their relationship to feminism. A range of alternative processes additionally allow the artist to navigate this work through the idea of touch and connection to the materiality of objects and therefore ourselves.
Session details:
For this session, we hosted a hands-on experimental workshop with artist Lucy Beckett, exploring the techniques behind her body of work, ESSENCE / SUBSTANCE.
Participants were introduced to the delicate and captivating process of Polaroid emulsion lifts — carefully separating the emulsion from instant film and transferring it onto new surfaces to create beautifully unique outcomes.
A huge thank you to Lucy for generously sharing her knowledge and creative approach, and to everyone who joined us and embraced the spirit of experimentation!
