Join Brazilian artist and researcher Paula Pedrosa for an artist-led tour of The Living Nature of the Stone-Dead, presented at Elysium as part of Ffoto Cymru 2026.

Paula’s ongoing project takes us deep into Brazil’s geological past, bringing together photographs of fossils, landscapes, geological formations, museums, scientific collections and contemporary reconstructions of prehistoric life. Moving between fact and imagination, nature and culture, her work asks us to consider how we understand the traces of lives that existed millions of years before us, and how these ancient histories continue to shape the world around us.

During the tour, Paula will share the stories, research and encounters behind the photographs, and talk about how looking at the landscape through the perspective of ‘deep time’ has shaped the project. What can fossils and rocks tell us about the past? And what might these much longer histories make us think about our own place in the world?
