School Groups & Teachers

The Schools Programme at Ffotogallery supports and enriches classroom practice through a variety of events designed to extend knowledge and understanding of Ffotogallery exhibitions of historic, modern and contemporary photographic art and to bring photography into the lives of our visitors. Through encouraging pupils and teachers to engage with the different types of artwork on display, we wish to promote confidence in being in the gallery environment and self-confidence in personal interpretations of art.

Sessions at Ffotogalley focus on modern and contemporary visual art from 1900 to the present day, drawing on both British and international works.

They emphasise the creative acquisition of skills, strategies for looking at art, and the possibility of many meanings in a single artwork. This method relates visual art to broader cultural concerns and challenges traditional ways of interpreting or creating art. These programmes are of particular value to teachers who wish to place their work within the expanded field of modern and contemporary visual art practice.

If you’re planning a visit to the gallery, download our free guide, which suggests ideas and ways that teachers / group leaders can make the most of a visit to Ffotogallery and feel confident to use the exhibitions independently if necessary.

Continuing Professional Development

Ffotogallery Education organizes INSET courses for primary and secondary teachers. These training sessions are often for a day, although we can run longer, more in depth courses as required. INSET days for teachers from South Wales can be held in at Turner House Gallery, or the Education Team can travel to you if you live further afield. The courses are both for individual teachers and for whole staffs.
