FROM THE ARCHIVE : August Update

It’s been a busy summer for us at Ffotogallery re: establishing our Library and Archive in the main gallery space of our building - you can see what we’ve done by revisiting our post here: https://www.ffotogallery.org/news/all-change-at-ffotogallery

Whilst it’s taken us a little longer to set up in it’s new home than anticipated, Chloe our Archive Project Officer has been making discovery after discovery!

A large part of our archive project has been piecing together parts of Ffotogallery’s history that are unknown to us and filling in the gaps. It’s been incredible how many people have been supporting Ffotogallery from the very beginning, and are still supporting us today. It’s also been incredibly insightful hearing from all of these people in piecing together parts of Ffotogallery’s history that were not recorded, or if they were, have gotten lost over the years.

We’ve come across many photographs that come with no information whilst going through the process of cataloguing and digitising our collection. We now need you, our brilliant supporters, to help us collect information that will improve our knowledge of Ffotogallery’s history.

Below are three contact sheets of a gathering outside of Ffotogallery in Charles St. that we’ve found and gives us an amazing insight into the Ffotogallery community back in the early days - but there’s no information at all about these images. While we can recognise some of the people in the images, we’d love to know more - that’s where you come in..

What we’re looking for:

  • Who was there? Are you in any of these images?

  • What was the occasion?

  • What year was it?

  • Who photographed these images?

This information is so important to us to be able to present these images in our archive with all the correct information included for the purposes of preserving and sharing Ffotogallery’s history and the legacy of its community.

Would you like to see these contact sheets in real life? Contact our Archive Project officer to book your appointment (see below).
