A Woman’s Work
Last week we celebrated the end of the European project A Woman’s Work with our online event ‘Photography and… A Woman’s Work’. This is the culmination of a 30 month collaborative programme of artist commissions, residencies, exhibitions, publications symposia and online events led by Ffotogallery and delivered with our partners in Lithuania, Ireland, Finland, France and Germany. The project used photography and digital media to challenge the dominant visual representation of women at work and show how that is changing in contemporary Europe. We would like to thank everybody who joined us on the day, and of course all of the artists, curators, partners and funders, who made the project possible. A recording of the event will be available to watch online soon, and in the meantime make sure you check out the project page below to find out more about the artists, physical and virtual exhibitions and events, and to get your hands on a copy of the A Woman’s Work legacy publication.

Imagining the Nation State – Meet the Artists
The ongoing collaboration between Chennai Photo Biennale Foundation and Diffusion Festival has enabled a total of five grant awards to photographers/lens-based artists in India and Wales. Each artist has been awarded a grant of 1500 GBP to work on their proposed projects over a period of six months.
The successful artists are Dipanwita Saha (India), Huw Alden Davies (Wales), Palani Kumar (India), Sebastián Bustamante (Wales) and Tarun Bhartiya (India). You can find out more about the artists and the projects they are working on using the button below.
March Featured Artist – Andreas Meichsner
Andreas Meichsner (b. 1973) is a German photographer, based in Berlin. His work focuses on contemporary aspects of European society, in particular dealing with the need for security and structure and its effect on people.
Showcasing the attitudes and peculiarities of tourists during their travels in this context, his first photo book Alles in Ordnung has become a winning title in the German Photography Book Awards 2012.
The project Arkadia examines life in Dutch holiday house parks. The homogeneous architectural arrangement of the parks make the houses appear like requisites of a perfect, artificial world, like a modern day Arcadia.

FORMAT21: CONTROL
This year Format has teamed up with New Art City to present the festival in a purpose-built multi-player virtual gallery space, featuring over 160 international artists and a selection of 40,000 images submitted to the #massisolationFORMAT archive created during the pandemic last year. The virtual festival is on now until the 11th April.
Artes Mundi 9 Online
You can now explore the Artes Mundi 9 exhibition online, with free talks from the shortlisted artists and exhibition walkthrough tours. Presentations of new and recent work centre on the devastating impact of histories of colonialism, environmental change, intergenerational trauma and healing, the aftermath and legacies of conflict, and ongoing concerns of representation and privilege.
Aesthetica Art Prize 2021
Aesthetica is looking for artists redefining the parameters of contemporary art. The Prize is open to multiple genres including photography, sculpture, installation, digital media, video, painting and more. Entries close on 31 August but submit by their Spring deadline to take advantage of the reduced entry fee.
OpenWalls Arles
OpenWalls is an international photography award designed to elevate the careers of both emerging and established photographers by exhibiting their work in prestigious and historic locations around the world. This year’s theme is Then and Now, and the deadline for entries is 1 April.
