Meet the Kickstarters! Liliana Bastos

Ffotogallery has interviewed each of our Kickstart team members, arranged by fellow Kickstarter Joshua Jones, as they are now leaving us to take the next step in their careers. These blog interviews are a way to celebrate their creativity and hard work, to show them off, and to say thank you for their dedication to Ffotogallery in the time they've been here. If you've been to Diffusion Festival or to any of our exhibitions and events, then you'd have seen their faces welcoming you at the door, pouring drinks or documenting the event.

A bit about you:

I am from Portugal, and currently in college studying a vocational access level course. I’m looking forward to going to uni to study Documentary Photography and to become a photographer.

What is your job role at Ffotogallery, and what does a normal working day look like for you?

I am an Exhibition and Events Assistant at Ffotogallery. A normal working day to me just means helping out with anyone that needs work. I help with tidying up the space in the gallery, library or office and just an extra hand generally. I also stay at the reception desk welcoming the public and invigilate, sending/replying to emails and doing research on the laptop.

Have you worked on an exhibition or project that you’re particularly proud of?

I organised the photography fairs, where I was able to contact different artists and businesses to ask if they wanted to participate in the event. I was really proud to do it myself, as I never thought I would be capable of doing it on my own. They also went really well! I also enjoyed invigilating exhibitions at Diffusion Festival, because I liked meeting members of the public and helping people.

Do you have a favourite memory of working at Ffotogallery?

I enjoyed every day working at Ffotogallery since I started. For me it was a blessing as I learnt a lot, communicated and worked with lots of different people. It has been a good progress for myself, being part of Ffotogallery, as I experienced many new things. Most of all, I liked installing and openings exhibitions and events, especially during Diffusion when we were all working as a team. We had a lot of fun and many laughs during the installation for Diffusion!

What are your plans after Ffotogallery?

My plans after Ffotogallery are to look for a new job suitable to my interests. I am happy to learn and have different experiences, so I’m hoping I’ll find a job I will still want to do in a few years time.
