Many Voices, One Nation 2

4 December 2020 – 23 January 2021

Opening times: Wednesday – Saturday, 11am – 5pm (Closed from 20th December 2020 – 5 January 2021 for Christmas and New Year.)

As Wales emerges from a challenging first eight months of the pandemic, Ffotogallery re-opens its doors on 4 December with an exhibition that presents a more optimistic view of our nation’s future. Many Voices, One Nation 2 features the work of twelve talented photographers working in Wales today. The exhibition captures the richness and diversity of the nation’s geography, culture and society, at a time of great uncertainty and upheaval.

The Many Voices, One Nation programme began life as a touring exhibition developed as a collaboration between Ffotogallery and the Senedd/Welsh Parliament, which marked 20 years of devolution in Wales.

The exhibition has been made possible through the support from the Arts Council of Wales’ Cultural Recovery Fund, which has also enabled Ffotogallery to make its gallery Covid-safe and welcoming for visitors.

You can find out more about each of the exhibiting artists on our dedicated project page here.

Visiting Ffotogallery

We’ve reconfigured the gallery and reception area to allow for social distancing and contact-free enjoyment of the exhibition. We have also upgraded our technology, disabled toilets, library and seating throughout the building making the Ffotogallery experience more accessible to online and physical visitors. We recognise that it will be a while before we will return to normal service, but we invite our friends, supporters and the general public to join us on that journey.

We recommend that you prebook your visit to Many Voices, One Nation 2 at Ffotogallery using this link. If you haven’t booked your visit in advance, you may be asked to wait outside if we are at maximum capacity.

The gallery is fully COVID compliant. Face masks should be worn at all times within the building unless the wearer is exempt, and hand sanitiser is available throughout. We encourage visitors to download the NHS COVID-19 App and scan the QR code as you enter the gallery.

If you have any queries about visiting, then please contact us on [email protected] or 029 2034 1667.

Last chance to apply: Creative Producer

There’s just a short time left to apply for the Creative Producer role at Ffotogallery! This is an opportunity to spend twelve months working for us at a particularly exciting time; this year we launch a season of culturally diverse exhibitions and engagement activities at our new centre in Cardiff. We will be touring Ffotogallery exhibitions, creating online content, and delivering the fifth edition of Diffusion: Cardiff International Festival of Photography, which takes place every other year, in Autumn 2021.

Deadline: Friday 27 November, 5pm

November Featured Artist – Tonje Bøe Birkeland

Tonje Bøe Birkeland (b. 1985), born in Bergen, Norway, received an MFA from Bergen Academy of Art & Design. Since 2008 she has, through The Characters, given women a position within the landscape while exploring the authenticity of history. While the romantic motives of the male wanderer have been well-documented, in Birkeland’s project, female explorers are staged in Unknown Territory. In front of the heroine looms grand exploration; beneath her, history is formed.
